The Sisters of Mercy (“Under the sign of the Red Cross”)

 

During the tour, we introduce visitors to materials that reflect the role of Russian women in saving the lives of Russian soldiers. The purpose of the Red Cross society was to organize international private voluntary assistance to victims of war, without distinction of rank or nationality.

 

By means of the tour you will discover the Red Cross society creation history, the organization of systematic care for the sick by women specially trained for this purpose, and the Sisters’ of Mercy life and heroic work. The Sisters’ of Mercy motto was: «Cure sometimes, treat often, comfort always»

 

In the halls you can see samples of clothing, underwear, utensils, dishes that were used in hospitals during the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878; materials telling about the lives of nurses awarded the Florence Nightingale medal and the Florence Nightingale medal, which belonged to L. F. Savchenko. In the center of the hall is a mock-up of the monument to Russian medical officers who died on the battlefields.
