Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov – a genius of Russian medicine.

 

The excursion is dedicated to the life and work of the great Russian scientist, surgeon and anatomist, the founder of the Russian military-field surgery – N. I. Pirogov (1810-1881). Its purpose is to show the outstanding achievements of Nikolay Pirogov in the development of Russian and world military medicine, as well as his good and glorious deeds, which allow him to be considered the national pride of Russia.

 

“The Pirogov’s Hall” of the Russian Museum of Military Medicine is the only one in the world with such a great amount of documents, manuscripts, and personal belongings of the scientist. Numerous awards, writings and personal possessions of the surgeon are presented in the showcases of the hall.

 

Among the unique exhibits of the museum there are surgical kits invented by Nikolay Pirogov, the scientist’s manuscript “The Old Physician's Diary” (1879-1881), and his death note with the diagnosis of his disease.
